Samburu Aid in Africa

Julietta Letinina

Julietta has five children, three of her own and two orphans, Bioki and Lmpingona. Bioki and Lmpingona's mother died two years ago because she couldn't get simple treatment for a chest infection; their father was killed when thieves cames to steal their cattle. Since then the boys have been living with Julietta and her husband Lmingi.

The future looks bleak for Julietta and her family. They live in a typical manyatta, or settlement, which is only temporary, and is miles away from the nearest school or water. Life is harsh at the best of times, and this year because the rains have failed it's almost unbearable.

Saidia knows that if people like Julietta are going to improve their lives forever, they have to settle down in one place. The charity is working with the Samburu to help them find a way to preserve their traditions and culture, whilst at the same time improving their lives.
