Samburu Aid in Africa

Patrick Lolokuria

Patrick is the head nurse at Saidia's Dispensary in Ngilai. The son of a penniless goatherder, Patrick grew up in Samburu. One day he walked into a school to find food, and a new life began for him and his family.

Thanks to sponsorship from Saidia, Patrick was given a full education through school and nursing college and he now has a responsible job using his skills to work amongst his own people.

Patrick has been able to settle in one place and build a decent home, looking after his extended family of 25. He is now working for Saidia, giving people life saving drugs to combat the chest infections that are so common among the Samburu, the widespread malaria and diarrhoea, and the growing problems of HIV and tuberculosis.

He also saves lives by immunising young children against life threatening but preventable illnesses like polio and tetanus. Patrick works exhausting hours, but he is determined to help his community and to enable other youngsters get the same chances he had.
