Samburu Aid in Africa

Future Plans

SAIDIA maintains its commitment to work with the local communities to realise their vision of a better tomorrow. To this end we have developed a number of projects for which we are currently seeking funding.

• Technology Upgrade: Creating a Safe and Efficient Environment for Delivering SAIDIA's Services
SAIDIA needs to overhaul its email and internet communication system so that its field bases are connected to its office in Maralal as well as its headquarters in Nanyuki.

• Integrated Water Solutions for Pastoralist Communities
SAIDIA needs to continue to support community efforts to improve existing wells, and is investigating the creation of new water catchment systems

• Resolving Conflict between the Turkana and Samburu: A Peace and Development Initiative
The Turkana and Samburu have traditionally competed for resources such as water and grazing for their herds. A drier climate and political tensions exacerbated this rivalry during the 1990s resulting in hundreds of deaths. Government intervention has eased the situation, and both groups have indicated a willingness to participate in a conflict resolution process.

• Education Fund
In addition to increasing the pool of professionals in Samburu District, an expanded program would emphasise girls’ schooling to improve the current male-female enrolment ratio of 5:1.

• HIV/AIDS Awareness
SAIDIA wants to expand its HIV/AIDS awareness program through mobile voluntary counseling and testing services and more community education support and awareness.
