Field posts - based in Samburu District

Health Manager
Key responsibility:
To develop, implement and manage SAIDIA's health programme, which aims to improve the quality of life of people in Samburu district, through the provision of comprehensive community based health care including mobile outreach services, and conducting health education on diseases or traditional practices which seriously threaten the health of the community.


    Minimum requirements:
  • Post-graduate training in clinical medicine

  • At least three years experience in a managerial capacity within a health programme (ideally with pastoralist communities) within government, national or international NGO or bilateral/multilateral organizations in East Africa

  • Knowledge and experience of developing and implementing programmes to combat the spread of infectious diseases such as STIs, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis

Community Development Manager
Key responsibility:
To develop, implement and manage SAIDIA's community development programme, which aims to improve the quality of life of people in Samburu district, through the support of income generating activities and access to markets, promoting adult literacy and early childhood development.

    Minimum requirements:
  • Post-graduate training in social science or agriculture
  • At least three years experience in a managerial capacity working in community development (ideally with pastoralist communities) within a national or international NGO or bilateral/multilateral organizations in East Africa
  • Proven experience and ability in community development methodologies and the ability to work in a participative manner developing shared ownership and vision
  • Knowledge and experience of developing and implementing micro-credit schemes

Community Nurses
SAIDIA requires Kenya Registered and Enrolled Community Health Nurses with experience of working and living in harsh, remote and difficult locations, of implementing mobile outreach services and community training activities.

Candidates for the above posts must be fluent in English and Kiswahili with knowledge of KiSamburu/KiMaa.

Programme Officer - Monitoring and Evaluation
Key responsibility:
To be responsible for developing and sustaining an effective and efficient monitoring and evaluation system for SAIDIA. To co-ordinate all monitoring and evaluation activities, build capacity for monitoring and evaluation in all programme areas and provide the necessary supporting supervision.

    Minimum requirements
  • Post graduate training in health, health systems research, and monitoring and evaluation methods
  • At least 3 years "hand on experience" at a mid to senior position in monitoring and evaluation in a health or related national or international NGO or bilateral/multilateral organizations in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Proven experience and abilities in the areas of conducting operations research (qualitative and quantitative), impact assessments, programme monitoring and evaluation, documentation and advocacy
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili languages knowledge of KiSamburu/KiMaa an advantage

Programme Officer - Grants
Key responsibility: To be responsible for the overall raising of funds from national and international government, agencies, trusts, foundations and NGOs and to work closely with the Director and field staff in ensuring programmes are implemented in line with donor contractual agreements including financial compliance. To maintain ongoing communication with the donor including preparing and submitting donor reports.

    Minimum requirements
  • Two years experience in grants management and/or fund-raising with an NGO in Africa
  • Knowledge of the Kenyan and international funding sector
  • Proven ability to raise money from national and international governments and agencies, trusts, foundations and NGOs
  • Proven expertise in proposal and report writing, and the ability to train others
  • Computer literacy - particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Fluent in English
